Special Hiking Trip
May 10 – 15, 2008
$1200 per person—double occupancy

This hiking trip will be lead by Jim Jackson. Jim was the trail guide and primary organizer for the Sierra Club’s Rogue River hiking trips for 10 years. Jim is planning this May 10 – 15 hiking trip as a reunion trip for many of the Sierra Club hikers who took the trip with him over those years. However, Jim wants to make it clear that anyone is invited to sign up for this one-of-a-kind hiking experience.

You will stay the first night (May 10) at Morrison’s Lodge which offers quaint accommodations and an upscale dinner and a country-style breakfast the morning of May 11. After breakfast, the staff at Morrison’s will shuttle you down to the White Water Warehouse hiking trailhead—Grave’s Creek—to start your 40-mile hiking adventure. You can leave your vehicle at the Morrison Lodge parking area during your hiking trip with White Water Warehouse. Once at Grave’s Creek, you will transfer your belongings to a WWW dry bag for raft transport down the river. You will keep a daypack and water bottle (or camelback) for each day’s hiking.

Daily we will join the river guides from White Water Warehouse at riverside for a lunch of fresh fruits, vegetables, homemade dips, and sandwich fix’ins. Plus, you can re-fill your water bottle or camelback.

The evening of May 11, you will enjoy upscale camping accommodations (Black Bar Lodge is closed that evening) at a wonderful campsite called Horseshoe Bend. This beautiful campsite overlooks the Rogue River. The camp’s location is about 11 miles from the trailhead. Dinner and breakfast will be a variety of Oregon-based culinary delights. Bourbon-basted Oregon salmon, organic salad with Oregon goat cheese and hazelnuts, fresh-baked biscuits with homemade raspberry jam, herbed potatoes, and fresh Oregon strawberry shortcake. Oregon and Washington wines will also be served in moderation. You will be provided tents and comfortable cots. Please bring your own sleeping bag. If you do not have a sleeping bag, you may rent ome from WWW for the cleaning fee of $12.00 per bag.

The next morning (May 12) you’ll arise to a country breakfast served overlooking the river. Soon, you are hiking your way to Marial Lodge—a beautiful 13 mile hike. Upon arrival at Marial, you will be greeted by the friendly caretakers, Pat and Lori Cameron. There, you will be offered private cabins/bathrooms and a wonderful dinner. You’ll awake the next morning to bacon sizzling on the grill and fresh coffee. The morning may be spent relaxing at Marial Lodge or visiting the Rogue River Museum one mile from the Lodge.

We depart Marial Lodge about 1pm on May 13th for Paradise Lodge.  This is a shorter hiking day—just 5 miles. Once at Paradise, the afternoon can be filled with short hikes around the area or spent relaxing at the Lodge. Again, a wonderful dinner and breakfast await you with private lodging accommodations.

Moving down the trail on May 14th to Clayhill Lodge, it is another short hike of about 7 miles. Private cabins, snacks, dinner and breakfast are also offered at the lodge.

The last day, May 15th, you will hike approximately 7 miles to the take-out site near Foster Bar. You will arrive around 1:30 p.m., eat lunch served by the WWW guides and then vans will take you back over the mountain to your waiting vehicles at Morrison’s Lodge.
